  • This Primary Alternating Current Shunt Set consists of seven separate shunt modules, designed to plug directly into either the Holt Model 6B, any Thermal Transfer Voltmeter or true RMS Digital Voltmeter. Each Shunt is a four-terminal resistor providing optimum frequency response well beyond the audio region. Controlled thermal characteristics ensure stable current measurements up to 26 amperes and advanced techniques are employed to minimize inductance and skin effects. Each module is attractively finished in dull black and individually serial numbered for ease of traceability.

An optional Shunt Transfer Unit is available with the HCS-1 Current Shunt Set allowing convenient interconnection of the Shunt with the associated AC-DC current sources. This dependable, low resistance, coaxial switch unit permits rapid transfer between sources and provides loading for the unused source in either position.

A rugged formica carrying case is included with each HCS-1 Shunt Set for convenient, dust-free module storage and transportation. The Model HCS-1 provides primary alternating current measurement capability with NIST traceability.

See below for the technical specifications of the HCS-1.

    TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

    APPLICATIONS:

Any alternating current level is precisely determined by equating it to the direct current required to produce the same voltage drop across the HCS-1 Shunt. The DC is accurately measured by use of a DC Shunt, potentiometer and standard cells. Each of the two sources must be extremely stable and capable of the required voltage burdens at rated current. Transfers are accomplished on a direct 1 for 1 current basis. The measurement accuracy is not a function of the absolute resistance of the Shunt. The absolute AC accuracy is a function of the AC-DC difference of the Shunt, the accuracy of the AC/DC voltage comparison, and the accuracy with which the DC current can be referenced to a standard cell voltage.
